Bristol Wood Recycling Project is hiring a Workshop Team Member 4 or 5 days per week (£25,626 full time equivalent) The Workshop Team Member role provides a supporting role to the Workshop Coordinator and Workshop Team in the running of the Workshop at BWRP. This means the production of goods to generate income, customer and co-op administration, volunteer supervision, safe running and maintenance of the workshop and cooperative working. These free workshops are being run by professional maker Matt Pang at SPLC and look like lots of fun! Would you like to build something but are not sure where to start? Are you interested in learning basic DIY engineering concepts? Do you want to get better at using DIY tools? In these free drop-in sessions you will learn DIY and making skills whilst building a chain reaction machine from found materials – wood, metal, plastic, all sorts! Guided by professional maker Matt Pang (and friends!). No previous experience required just the willingness to get hands-on and have a go! We will also be building a community contraption to be used for the Global Day of the Drum celebrations with Bridging Histories in summer 2025! TOOLS FOR SELF-RELIANCE! I visited the Bristol To TOOLS FOR SELF-RELIANCE! I visited the Bristol Tools for Self-Reliance volunteer group yesterday. They collect and recondition all sort of hand tools to be shipped to groups in Africa giving training and support to enable people to rebuild their lives and become self-reliant! Due to issues shipping to Africa currently they have a surplus of carpentry tools and would welcome an approach by anyone with limited funds looking to set themselves up to woodwork and put the tools to good use. The lidded box is a challenging project that focuses on accuracy using only hand tools to produce a beautiful little box with hand cut dovetails, mortice and tenon and other joinery. MORTICE CHOPPING! Eilean is using a firmer chisel MORTICE CHOPPING! Eilean is using a firmer chisel and a mallet to chop out the majority of the waste wood from these mortices. The mortices are shallow, so heavier mortice chisels are not necessary for this task.
