18th May 2022
Here at The Makershed, we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning and working environment for all of our makers.
COVID-19 is still a danger for many people and health and safety measures such as physical distancing between work stations, good ventilation and the minimisation of equipment sharing will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
The relaxation of COVID-19 regulations means it is no longer mandatory to wear a face mask whilst participating in our courses but some of our tutors will choose to do so still. The St Pauls Learning Centre asks that face masks be worn in communal areas and walkways so you will need to bring a mask with you when you visit us.
You may also be asked to wear a mask for group demonstrations and in this case, we would be grateful for your understanding and co-operation so that we can ensure safe access for all of our makers.
If you would like your tutor to wear a mask for close-up tuition and to ensure that they are worn by others for group demonstrations please do let us know before you arrive. We are very happy to accommodate these precautions.

With COVID case numbers growing incredibly fast in Bristol and in order to safeguard students and tutors, from today we’re asking everyone to continue wearing face coverings whilst moving around the workshop and while receiving 1:1 tuition at student benches.
To ensure a fully COVID-secure working and learning environment, there will be no immediate changes to the COVID security measures in place at the Makershed in response to the relaxation of government guidelines that have changed today.
Social distancing, ventilation and mask wearing rules will all remain in place as they are currently and we hope that everyone will continue to be as considerate as possible as we all navigate this next phase of the pandemic. Thank you!

We are absolutely indebted to all our students, friends and family once again for their amazing support since closing last November and we couldn’t be more proud, excited and incredibly grateful to be opening our workshop doors again later today.
We look forward to welcoming all of our students both new and existing back into the workshop. To all of you, please follow the Covid rules we have in place - your health and safety has always been our top priority and we want to ensure that The Makershed remains a safe place to be. As before lockdown 3.0 we’ve halved our normal class capacity to enable physical distancing but don’t forget your masks!
We can’t wait to see you all!! Yippeeeeeee!!!!

25th February 2021
It’s looks like we will be reopening our workshop on the 17th May, so our regular weekly daytime and evening classes will be restarting from that week for existing students. We’ll be putting our new 2021 timetable up on the website as soon as possible and getting in touch with everyone on our waiting lists to offer new weekend course start dates.
As before Lockdown 3.0 our workshop will be COVID-19 secure and ready to reopen safely to students in May, with class capacity set to 6 students to enable physical distancing and each student will have a workstation kitted out with individual tools and PPE. As before we will continue to look after everyone's health and aim to stop the spread of Covid-19 further.
Waiting lists for all courses are still open so have a look at what's on offer and email us to register your interest for our re-opening. In the meantime lets all keep our fingers crossed about what the scientists says and we’ll be back in the Makershed in MAY!!

So here we go again, another national lockdown and sadly looking at the latest Government advice, it looks we will now stay closed until at least March. We’ll obviously be revising our course timetable and will let everyone that is currently on or has booked a course know as soon as possible what this means for them.
As ever we are indebted to our students for their support and we’re gutted we won’t be seeing them anytime soon but we wish everyone well and look forward to welcoming you all back in the Spring. This situation is tough for a lot of people but we are not going to get downhearted, we are ready for what ever 2021 brings us.
Stay safe and stay creative!

27th November 2020
As we now know that here in Bristol next week it will be goodbye Lockdown 2.0 and hello Tier 3, meaning the highest level of restrictions, it is with very heavy hearts The Makershed will remain closed until further notice.
We have invested so much time and energy into ensuring The Makershed workshop is COVID secure so we are beyond gutted that we won’t be seeing our lovely students in the run up to the Christmas holiday. The sad truth is that case numbers here in Bristol have increased fast in recent weeks and we must now all aim to keep transmission levels as low as possible so that we and many other small businesses in this city can reopen in the New Year.
Thank you to all of our students for the support you have shown us over the last few months, we have contacted everyone that is currently on or has booked a course with us to either rearrange class dates or offer a refund. As ever, stay busy, stay warm and stay creative!

1st September 2020
We are absolutely indebted to all our students, friends and family for their amazing support over the last few months and we couldn’t be more proud, excited and grateful to be opening our workshop doors again today.
Our workshop is a Covid-Secure workplace, we’ve halved our class capacity to enable physical distancing and each student workstation is kitted out with individual tools and PPE.
An essential part of this Covid-Secure status is how we as staff, and our students manage their behaviour whilst in the workshop. Our new rules and guidelines will be sent to all new students to read and digest so that they arrive informed and prepared to keep the workshop safe for both staff and students.
We look forward to welcoming all students both existing and new back into the workshop from today and long into the future!

8th June 2020
We’re sorry to announce that The Makershed will now remain closed until 1st September 2020. Our workshop is located within the St Pauls Learning Centre which, unless government advice changes, will remain closed to the public until this time.
We’re very disappointed that we won’t be seeing our students over the Summer and in view of the length of this wait to reopen, we have also decided to refund all held course fees.
The workshop will be COVID-19 secure and ready to open safely to students in September, with reduced class capacity to enable physical distancing and individual workstations kitted out with individual tools and PPE. New and existing students can now book in for the Autumn / Winter term.
We hope you have a lovely summer and look forward to seeing you back in the Makershed soon!
The Makershed Team
23rd April 2020
The Makershed workshop is currently closed and we are aiming to reopen on the 6th July 2020.
You can still order gift vouchers and book weekend courses through this website, and email us on hello@themakershedbristol.co.uk to be added to waiting lists for midweek daytime and evening class places.
If your query is urgent, we can be contacted via urgent@themakershedbristol.co.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
27th March 2020
Like you we are trying to navigate this uncertain and crazy time day by day. Looking at the latest Government advice and the lockdown situation, our late Spring re-opening date of 20th April now looks to be an impossibility - looking after everyone's health, slowing the spread of Covid-19 and supporting our wonderful NHS are our top priorities.
The lovely weather does have us dreaming of Summer and keeping us hopeful about when things will return to normal so we’re now aiming to reschedule existing students ONLY into our Summer term starting on the 6th July potentially under strict physical distance rules. We will email ALL students that have currently booked on courses of the changes affecting them.
All new bookings will be for the term starting Autumn 2020. We will update you and the website with available dates to book in the coming weeks. For all enquires regarding classes and rescheduling course dates please email us via hello@themakershedbristol.co.uk and we will reply as soon as possible!
Keeping our fingers crossed about what the scientists says and we’ll see some of you back in the Makershed soon!!
The Makershed Team
17th March 2020
We always put safety first at The Makershed, therefore following government advice regarding Corona Virus (COVID-19), ‘now is the time for everyone to stop non essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel’ we regret to announce that we will be pausing ALL courses and workshops currently running at The Makershed from today until at least the 20th April.
If you have booked a course with a start date in between now and 20th April, you can either request a refund or, reschedule your booking. Potential dates for rescheduling are on the website but you can also choose to wait for new dates to be released when we re-open. If you are currently part way through a course you can either request a proportional refund (the fee paid less classes taken and the cost of your materials) or, suspend your course with remaining classes to be rescheduled when we re-open. Projects will be made available for collection by arrangement. Please let us know what you would like to do and we will process everything as quickly as we can.
Given the speed at which this situation is evolving, we will be reviewing the status of courses beyond this time on a regular basis and we will email ALL students that have currently booked on courses of any changes affecting them.
Clearly the challenges we now face are quite unprecedented. For all enquires regarding classes and our temporary closure please email us via hello@themakershedbristol.co.uk and we will reply as soon as possible!
We’ll be keeping our social media feed rolling while our doors are closed to keep you updated on all things Makershed and hopefully bring some smiles to your faces with some more positive posts about us, our students and our courses. There may even be some on line tutorials on how to chisel a dovetail to keep you all woodwork hungry!
Like many other small education companies we are absolutely gutted to face this pause in teaching our wonderful courses and skills to all of our students. On a positive note we’ve built up a stable and secure business over the last few years and we expect to have a full and busy timetable again as soon as the environment allows.
We are indebted to you for your support and we look forward to opening the Makershed again in the not too distant future.
Stay safe, keep smiling and best wishes to all of you in these strangest of times.
